Thumb counts as five. Left hand = tens (0–90). Right hand = ones (0–9).
Addition: for ones overflow, think “+10” mentally, remove the complement on the right, then add tens including carry.
Subtraction: borrow 10 from the left if ones are smaller; a cue will appear.
